Foxhole Prayers

Eileen Campion I LOVE the NY story behind prescient new tune “Foxhole Prayers.” The drummer devised a clever way to lay down his loud tracks from his Greenwich Village apt during the Covid-19 quarantine lockdown by recording for 5 minutes each evening at 7pm — as New Yorkers cheered loudly and banged on pots and pans to show support for the heroic efforts of medical workers, first responders and essential workers during The Outbreak. Then they mixed the ambient clanging cookware into the end of the song! Favorite track: Foxhole Prayers.

about

We started cutting this in the days leading up the NYC "shelter in place" order do to the coronavirus so had to track the drums, percussion, and mandola remotely from home. Our drummer on the track (the brilliant Tom Curiano), didn't wanna make too much noise in his Greenwich Village apartment and disturb his neighbors so he had to wait all day and record everything at 7pm when people went out their windows to cheer for the medical workers and first responders of the pandemic. He told me on the phone "I'll have 5 minutes to get it under the cover of all that noise." While he was tracking he set up three microphones out his windows to capture all the hootin' and hollerin' and banging on pots and pans honoring the workers, so that's what you're hearing along with the track during the outro of the song.

Foxhole Prayers

Pray for faith
You can do it with eyes open
Yes I've strayed but never stopped hopin'
In a day where I could walk fearlessly
In the fray with the spirit that sings with me

Gone are days of heaping praise hoping to just get a leg up...
Cold blank stares and foxhole prayers for luck
Those are the ones that you say when you know that you're fucked

So pray for faith and maybe the crops are saved
Either way I think you will be amazed
Who's to say what's good and what isn't?
Think it through you'll be in a prism of...

Light and dark and unforeseen barbed wire and then you're stuck
And cold blank stares and foxhole prayers for luck
Those are the ones that you say when you know that you're fucked

So pray for faith and do so needlessly
Everyday and it will come easily
Holds your hand through heartache and sorrow
Staving off those scary tomorrows
La la la-la la la la...la la la-la la la la...la la la-la la la la lahhhhhhh
