Customer Service

from Split Milk by Christopher John Campion

about

A rainy day song that kinda wrote itself. With the beautiful Hudson River flashing by me out the window I composed the string part on the train ride up to the studio in Beacon on the extraordinary Casio SA-76, as much a musical instrument as it is a lifestyle!! -CJC

Customer Service

spent the afternoon fiddlin'
nothing's working but lights are blinkin'
disconnected and plugged back in
but no amount of my best thinkin'...
was gonna work and I got nervous
so I lobbed a call into customer service

guy puts me right on hold
now I'm listening to the theme from "Taxi"
a sad song by all accounts...
but for some reason it makes me happy
I think of things the family did
and the New York City I knew as a kid

Well, go on and keep explaining
wait I think you lost me
somewhere in the middle maybe double-crossed me
perhaps we'd do better speaking with your boss please
only question left is what's this gonna cost me?

Now I'm lost in reverie
thinkin' about a train I took and...
I guess I'd just turned twenty three
I had my nose inside this book when
this girl sat down and we shared some booze
flirted and made out all the way up to Syracuse

God I feel like a cliche
phone in hand perched at my window
staring out on a rainy day
wondering where did all that time go?
but I'm happy with what I see
even though it's not the place I thought I'd be

well, go on and keep explaining wait I think you lost me
somewhere in the middle maybe double-crossed me
perhaps we'd do better speaking with your boss please
only question left is what's this gonna cost me?

guy comes back to aplogize
tells me there's no easy fixes
can't get into the "hows and whys"
that the world's made up of these type glitches
and I thank him for his help
turns out I just needed this time to myself

Well go on and keep explaining
wait I think you lost me
somewhere in the middle maybe double-crossed me
perhaps we'd do better speaking with your boss please
only question left is what's this gonna cost me?
